A place to practice deep listening and honest speaking, about anger, grief, relationships, sex, addiction, fatherhood, anything you think and feel, with men who will tell you the truth. Much of the work is learning to speak plainly while staying open, to give and take feedback in that same register, and then to carry it into the relationships that matter most.

Men's Group: The Fire Lodge

The Fire Lodge is an online men's therapy group for men living in New York, led by Jason Maas, LMHC. It's a small, closed circle that meets by video. The name says what it's for: a place to gather and sweat off the impurities. It follows The North Node, our first long-running men's group.

Most men have never had this. We are taught to handle things alone, to keep the hard parts private, and to treat other men as competition or company but rarely as witnesses. A group undoes that, slowly, one meeting at a time.

What is The Fire Lodge?

Men who are tired of carrying things alone. Fathers who want to raise their kids differently than they were raised. Men in the middle of a divorce, a career change, a loss, a recovery. Men whose partners have asked them to open up and who do not know how. Men who are doing fine and know there is more.

You do not need to be in crisis. You need to be willing to show up, keep confidence, and tell the truth as best you can.

Who joins a men's therapy group?

What happens in a meeting?

We open with a check-in, each man saying where he actually is, not where he thinks he should be. From there the group follows what is alive: one man's situation, a conflict between members, a theme that keeps surfacing. Jason holds the structure and keeps the feedback clean. We close with a round so no one leaves mid-sentence.

The skill being built is emotional attunement: noticing what you feel, naming it, and staying present with another man while he does the same. It sounds simple. It is not, and it changes how you show up at home.

Is the group online?

Yes. The Fire Lodge meets by telehealth, and because it is psychotherapy, members need to be located in New York during sessions.

The Fire Lodge is currently full. To add your name to the waitlist, or ask a question, reach out. When a spot opens, we will set up a short call to see if the group is a fit for you and for the men already in it.
